According to Sky Sports, Burnley reject Heaton bid from Aston Villa which they have regarded as ‘derisory’ and way off their valuation of the goalkeeper.

However it is understood that Aston Villa only made this bid in order to really gauge the reaction from Burnley, as they were not optimistic that the bid would be accepted by the Clarets.

Despite that, it is understood that Aston Villa are interested in a number of goalkeepers and Heaton is one of many on the midlands club’s current wish list.

Although it is understood that Villa boss Dean Smith and goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler are big admirers of Heaton. Despite that, the midlands club are wary of getting value for money given the Englishman is now 33 years old, entering the final year of his Burnley contract and has been struggling with a shoulder problem.

It is understood that Aston Villa are placing significance in strengthening their rear guard this transfer window, amidst concerns on their quality in defence. This follows a season in the Championship where the team scored 82 goals but conceded 61 in the league.

Burnley reject Heaton bid after he played 22 games for Burnley last season, super-seeding Joe Hart as the regular number 1 starter particularly during the second half of the season. Heaton originally joined Burnley from Bristol City back in 2013.

In other Burnley transfer news, the club have completed the signing of defender Erik Pieters from Stoke on a 2 year contract. The defender spent 6 years at Stoke and has a wealth of Premier League experience, something Sean Dyche will welcome at the club.

The Dutch centre half becomes Burnley’s first signing of this transfer window and is said to want to bring in further reinforcements after a bumpy 2018/19 season.
