It has been confirmed that Burnley sign Pieters from Championship side Stoke City on a 2 year contract with the option of an additional year.

The defender spent 6 years at Stoke after joining the club back in 2013 from PSV Eindhoven, where he made over 200 appearances.

The Dutch international becomes Sean Dyche’s first signing of this summer’s transfer window, where he will be keen to add reinforcements after Burnley’s turbulent 2018/19 campaign.

Burnley sign Pieters after he spent last season on loan at Amiens and the move back to the Premier League will be a welcomed move, following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship in 2018.

After being given the chance to revive his career, Pieters told the Clarets official website: “I’m delighted to sign. I have been at Stoke for 6 years but ended up being sidetracked.

“Burnley gave me the opportunity to get back into the Premier League and it feels good to be back.

“I feel I can bring experience because I have played a lot of Premier League games at Stoke. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out there towards the end.

“The new manager came in and you find yourself out of the team and have to make some decisions.

“I respect that. It’s not nice after being there for such a long time, but this opportunity has come to get back into the Premier League with Burnley.

“I have played so many times against Burnley, so I know all about them. They are always difficult to play against and strong as a group and a team.

“So when I got the opportunity I didn’t have to think long about it”.

Pieters will not have to wait long until he gets the chance to make his Premier League debut with Burnley, with the Clarets kicking off their 2019/20 campaign at home to Southampton on Saturday 10th August.
